Laura Walking-Eagle was born in Southern California and spent her youth years in the area until deciding to see more of the world and move to the rainy city of Seattle. There she attended Seattle Pacific University, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
In Seattle Laura worked in a variety of settings including public housing buildings, women and young children's shelters, after school programs, and coffee shops. During summer breaks, Laura returned to Carlsbad and worked part time at the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, where her work with children began.
To be closer to those she loves, Laura moved back to San Diego upon graduating. The return home brought her again to the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad where she worked as the Social Recreation Director. Her work included oversee of Inclusion Programming: including children with disabilities into regular programming. It was here she realized her heart for children with disabilities; she felt honored to be working with kids who teach us so much.
Laura finds working in the field of autism teaches us not only about these special people, but about everyone. In her spare time, Laura enjoys going to the beach, frozen yogurt, and spending time with loved ones.
